Wind Park Wildlife Protection Project

A wind park in Leon, Spain, utilizes an innovative bird deterrent system that employs TOA IP speakers to promote coexistence between renewable energy and local wildlife. The system is specifically designed to keep birds away from the vicinity of wind turbines, reducing the risk of collisions and enhancing species protection. This, in turn, helps improve the environmental impact of wind installations.

The detection system was designed by Artificial Vision Air Detection, a company based in Barcelona. They chose TOA as the provider for the audio equipment and equip wind parks across Spain with this system.

Main Components:

• TOA IP-A1SC15 Speakers: Four high-power speakers capable of emitting sounds up to 110 decibels at a distance of one meter. These speakers are optimized to cover large areas around wind turbines.

• Detection Module: The IP speakers are connected to a detection module that activates the speakers based on the proximity of birds to the danger zone, optimizing the use of sound resources.

Functionality:

• The system detects birds within a 600-meter radius, automatically activating acoustic signals to deter them when they approach within 200 meters of electrical infrastructure. The speakers emit controlled sound levels, ensuring that birds stay away from the turbines without causing them harm or significantly disrupting the natural environment.

• The sound is amplified to cover a wide area, providing effective protection for the surroundings of the wind turbines.

This deterrent system not only represents an advance in the efficiency and safety of wind operations but also marks an important step toward environmental conservation. By scaring birds away without harming them, TOA’s IP speakers help minimize the negative impacts of human activities on wildlife, making renewable energy even more sustainable.
