Supporting Wildlife Protection: TOA Electronics Europe and Artificial Vision Collaborate for Sustainable Wind Park Operations

Spain, February 2025: In an inventive effort to improve coexistence between renewable energy and local wildlife, a bird deterrent system has been developed using TOA IP speakers. The system aims to mitigate the impact of wind turbines on birds, providing efficient protection in renewable energy environments. This, in turn, enhances the environmental sustainability of wind installations — an improvement already evident at a wind park in León since its installation in summer 2024.

Functionality of the system

The deterrent module integrates four high-powered IP-A1SC15 horn speakers, which can emit sounds of up to 110 decibels at a distance of one meter. The sound is amplified by a detection module connected to the system, ensuring it can be heard up to hundreds of meters away, providing wide coverage in areas that require protection. To guarantee reliable, long-lasting performance even under challenging outdoor conditions, the weatherproof IP-A1SC15 speakers were chosen for this system.

Partnership for wildlife protection
The bird deterrent system is the result of a close collaboration between Artificial Vision Air Detection, the designer and integrator of the system, and TOA Electronics Europe, the manufacturer of the audio equipment. Artificial Vision, based in Barcelona, specializes in developing cutting-edge solutions that bridge technology and environmental conservation.

"Our goal is to provide innovative solutions that harmonize renewable energy projects with local wildlife conservation efforts," says Jordi Albà Hernández, Chief Technology Officer of Artificial Vision Air Detection. "We are proud to collaborate with TOA, whose IP horn speakers seamlessly integrate into our system, ensuring both exceptional performance and the longevity of the installation."

Celia García Aguayo, Market Research Manager at TOA Electronics Europe in Spain, adds: “This deterrent system enhances the efficiency and safety of wind operations while contributing significantly to environmental conservation. By deterring birds without causing harm, TOA’s IP speakers help minimize the environmental impact of human activities. We are proud to support Artificial Vision in developing sustainable solutions for future wind park projects.”
