Modernisation of the Acoustic and Safety Systems at Marschweg Stadium, Oldenburg
The Marschweg Stadium in Oldenburg, Lower Saxony, Germany has been a significant municipal venue for football since 1951. To meet the requirements of professional football and the standards of the German Football Association (DFB), the city of Oldenburg decided to modernize the stadium comprehensively in autumn 2022.
A central component of this large-scale reconstruction was the modernization of the acoustic and safety systems. Our partner ERWE-Elektrobau GmbH was awarded the contract to install the new system and chose the following components:
Voice Alarm System VX-3000
The VX-3000 voice alarm system was installed to ensure quick and effective evacuation in case of an emergency and to guarantee safety in daily stadium operations. The central unit, along with various frame modules (VX-3004F, VX-3016F) and amplifiers (VX-050DA), forms the backbone of the fail-safe, high-performance public address system. Three RM-300X system call stations allow announcements to be made from different locations in the stadium. The complete system complies with the current standards for electrical emergency warning systems (ENS) and voice alarm systems (SAA).
Grandstand PA System with HX-7B-WPEN and SC-630M EB-Q
To ensure clear and intelligible voice transmission, a combination of weather-resistant horn loudspeakers (SC-630M EB-Q) and the compact HX-7B-WPEN loudspeaker system was installed. The HX-7 loudspeakers were mounted under the grandstand roof and could be precisely aligned with the grandstand areas due to their flexible rigging. They provide even sound coverage for the spectator areas and excellent sound for match operations. The high-performance horns are used for additional volume boost. This combination allows both high-quality announcements and music to be played clearly and distinctly in any weather conditions.
SR-C15BWP High-Performance Subwoofer and DA-550F Power Amplifier
The SR-C15BWP high-performance subwoofers were integrated into the music system to provide powerful bass reproduction. These subwoofers are specially designed for large, open spaces such as stadiums and offer dynamic, deep bass that significantly enhances the stadium's music experience. They are powered by the low-impedance DA-550F amplifiers.
Horn Loudspeaker CS-761BS W
Weather-resistant horn loudspeakers were selected for use in adjoining areas. These loudspeakers combine excellent sound quality, high sound pressure, and weather resistance, making them versatile solutions for areas where no compromises can be made.
Special Challenges
The planning and installation of the system had to account for the stadium's unique structural conditions. The existing grandstand roof, a complex stretch roof construction, and the underground cabling in the outdoor areas posed particular challenges. However, these were overcome through precise planning and the use of flexible system components, ensuring that the Marschweg Stadium is now fully up to date in terms of both safety and acoustics.
